Ursula Ann McGreevy Gahlberg went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 27, 2026.
She was one of five siblings born to Raymond E. McGreevy and Mary Jane Hager. Her life started in Shiloh, Ohio, and as a young girl her family moved to River Forest, Illinois. Ursula Ann went out east to attend college and returned to Chicago where she met her husband, the late William E. Gahlberg. They were married in 1955 and have two daughters, Elizabeth (William) Gladney and Susan (Mark) Hearne.
Over the years, they made several moves—Michigan, Arizona, and then back to the Chicago area in the late 1960s. In each place they lived, Ursula Ann became deeply involved in her church community. She served on search committees, participated in Bible studies, and engaged actively in urban ministries. Moody Bible Institute and Christ Church played a significant role in the lives of both she and her husband in their later years. She was especially blessed to attend Christ Church with two of her siblings and her beloved nephew, Jim McGreevy.
Even in her last days, as age tried to steal her memory, it could not steal her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ursula Ann was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews; a grandmother to Kiley (Mark) Talbott, Kathryn (Adam) Stacy, Anna (Adam) Gnau, Amelia Hearne (Ian Moore), and Elizabeth (Scott) Davis; and a great-grandmother to Anna Kathryn Talbott, Augustus Gnau, Charlotte Talbott, Elizabeth Stacy, Connor Stacy, Oliver Gnau, Stella Stacy, Hazel Gnau, Everett Gnau, Ava Moore, Adilyn Moore, Ruth Davis, and Eleanor Davis.
Ursula is survived by her brother, Jay Warden McGreevy, and her sister, Myrna Irene Newpart. She is preceded in death by her brother R. Edward McGreevy and her sister Sarah Ellen McGreevy.
As she lived out her final days in Chicago, she was under the care and devotion of Theresa Devoe, her friend to the end.
Contributions in memory of Ursula Ann may be made to Christ Church, Oak Brook.
