Susan G. Leonhard, of Burr Ridge, Illinois, passed away on June 16, 2021, at Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale, Illinois. Susan was born on February 1, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Dr. Robert Geurkink and the late Jean (Gustafson) Geurkink. Susan was married to William S. Leonhard at Hinsdale Covenant Church on November 29, 1980, in Hinsdale, Illinois. Susan “Geurks” was a graduate of the Hinsdale High School class of 1978. She studied Music Theory at Hope College in Holland, Michigan for two years before leaving to pursue her “Mrs.” degree. Susan was a life-long member of Hinsdale Covenant Church and a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She had a tremendous passion for music and selflessly shared her gifts in many ways. She led a children’s choir (Choristers), was a frequent soloist, and was a founding member of the contemporary music service. She enjoyed travel, sitting on the beach, spending time with dear friends, bird watching, Joni Mitchell music, playing her guitar, dining outdoors, and her beloved children and a precious grandson. She is survived by her husband Bill, her children Will Leonhard, Jessica (Leonhard) Maguire, Tyler Leonhard, and grandson Harrison Leonhard (son of Will). A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hinsdale Covenant Church, 412 S. Garfield, Hinsdale on August 28, 2021, at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hinsdale Covenant Church to re-establish a Chorister Program that would teach young children the joy of singing.
