Nicholas Victor Bruno Emanuele, 75, a resident of Burr Ridge, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Loyola University Medical Center of covid, in the loving presence of his wife and son. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his children, Francis (Daniella), Michael (Jennifer), Joseph, and Mark (Lindsay), his sister Vincenzina and his seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Isabella, Gabriella, Michaela, Tyson, Joseph, and Grace.
Nicholas was born on October 31, 1945, in Chicago where he attended high school at Loyola Academy, followed by Loyola University Chicago and Northwestern Medical school.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army and returned to Chicago afterward.
Nick had a lifelong passion for caring for his patients and research. He worked at Hines VA and Loyola University Medical Center since 1980. His pioneering research in neuroendocrinology and diabetic kidney disease led to more than 300 papers and book chapters. He taught generations of medical students and residents the importance of endocrinology and how to manage diabetes. He was an avid Chicago sports enthusiast.
Nick was an adoring husband, loving father, and an amazing grandfather. He loved his family dearly. He will be deeply missed by all.
A private funeral mass will be held at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Hinsdale with Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
