Mary L. Voigt (born Mary Emily) to Frank B. And Jessie A. Lewis on February 14, 1923 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arkansas and completed one year of graduate study at the University of Iowa (Iowa City). She married Adolph Voigt in 1944. They had no children. Adolph passed away from cancer in 1970.
Mary was a longtime resident of Downers Grove, IL, beginning with the very last Lustrous metal home produced. She spent the majority of her career in the Chicago office of Standard Oil of Indiana. During her career there, the company became Amoco Oil. Following her retirement in 1986, she became the Assistant Secretary of the Board of Directors of the BP/Amoco Alumni Association of Greater Chicago. Mary was an avid doll collector, and was active in several local, national and international doll clubs. She served on the By-Laws committee of the reorganized Madame Alexander Doll Club, before serving for seven years as the club’s treasurer. She also served as the treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Modern Doll Collectors organization.
In her early eighties, when most people begin slowing down, Mary began a new adventure. Selling her Downers Grove home, auctioning the majority of her doll collection, and buying a BMW, she moved into a condominium at Plymouth Place Senior Living, a retirement community, where she made new friends, served on home owners boards and various committees. She was also active in knitting and quilting groups both within and outside of Plymouth Place.
Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 23rd. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank B. And Jessie A. Lewis, her husband, Adolph Voigt, her brother Frank W. Lewis and her sister, Bertha L. Lewis.
A private interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
