Laura A Cronin, aged 87, of Clarendon Hills, IL, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026. She was born on February 28, 1939, in Farmington, NH. Throughout her life, she found strength in the gospel and maintained a personal devotion that was steady, humble, and sincere. She held various callings --she entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement in Garrison, NY and was missioned in California and New York where she taught religious education classes. She earned a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine from the Dioceses of Albany, New York, and completed higher studies in Church History and New Testament from the Greater Lawrence Regional Tech Institution in West Andover, Massachusetts. Later, she served as Wolfeboro's Postmaster, New Hampshire, held a supervisory role at Brewster Academy, was a hospice volunteer, an offset press operator, and was President of Rotary Club of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and awarded a Paul Harris Fellow, one of Rotary International's most prestigious honors given to individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the organization's mission of "Service Above Self”.
Laura was predeceased by her parents Robert Hussey and Jean Poisson of North Andover, her husband, Frank, her brothers, Richard, Robert, Donald, Albert, and sister, Sylvia Stugard. She is survived by nieces and nephews who adore her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all of them.
Despite many health challenges, Laura remained resilient, independent, and grateful. Many of her deepest relationships revolved around fishing, golfing, and staying connected to family and friends. She was a talented pianist/organist and played in church for the choirs. She had a lovely, alto singing voice. Laura loved animals, especially her beloved kitty, BB Girl. She enjoyed mysteries, women’s softball, crafts, puzzling, and visiting the Grand Canyon under the first morning light.
Laura touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her and is remembered by many extended family members, especially Sr. Renee of Garrison, NY, Dee Van Leeuwen, and the Wohlever family of Clarendon Hills and “adopted” brother, David Gore of Oak Park. She was very uplifting and fun. Prayers were ever on her lips and in heart for those she encountered, often spontaneously joining friends and strangers in lifting requests heavenward.
Funeral mass services will be held Friday, June 12, at 10 AM at St. Isaac Jogues, 4th and Clay St, Hinsdale, IL. Laura’s cremains will be interred at The Christ the King Garden located at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, IL. A celebration of life will occur later. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes gifts made in her honor to “where need is greatest” Mayo Clinic, Department of Development 200 First Street SW Rochester, MN 55905.
