Katherine Schaeffer

Katherine Schaeffer passed away on July 20, 2024 in Naperville. She was born on November 25, 1927 in Romania to Nicklaus Plei and Maria Klein. 

Beloved wife of the late Andrew Schaeffer , whom she married September 25, 1945. Loving mother of Katherine (the late Walter) Wuthrich of Chicago and Andrew J. (Julia) Schaeffer of Warrenville, adored grandmother of Richard M. (Jill) Mueller and Holly Ann (Carlos Rodriguez) Wuthrich; Eric (Emily) Schaeffer, Kevin (Anna Berry)Schaeffer and Lora Schaeffer, cherished great-grandmother of Olin and Lily Mueller; Anabella Wuthrich and Ivy Schaeffer. Dear sister of Elizabeth (the late Joseph) Leptich, the late Nicklaus and the late Michael (the late Anna) Plei, fond cousin, aunt, great-aunt and friend of many.

Katherine grew up on a German farm in Romania that was displaced during the upheaval of World War II. She was able to immigrate to the United States in the early 1950's, with her husband and daughter settling in Chicago. 

She was employed by Zenith Corporation for 10 years. 

She was a former member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Skokie and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Streamwood, IL. 

Family and friends will meet on Friday July 26, 2024 for an 11am interment at All Saints Cemetery, 700 N. River Rd, Des Plaines, IL 60016, (847) 298-0450. Committal rites will be held in the mausoleum. Entombment will follow.
