Those who really knew our Son Joe would say that he had a Huge sensitive breakable Heart and a Beautiful Brilliant Mind – Tormented. His huge heart always had an intense need to feel compassion for the pains of others. He was a great listener and gave his support when others were concerned or anxious and he was willing to share his own, happy and dark, experiences in order to help his Mom and Dad and his best friend John, who was always there for Joe, with no judgement. He was not shy about speaking up when someone else was suffering, or if he felt that someone was being treated unfairly.
Joe had so many diverse academic interests - he loved history and how the Human mind worked. He was a body builder and a martial artist. He wanted to help others to better their lives. He had so much compassion for human suffering because, unlike most people, he experienced it first-hand.
Joe was a brilliant writer of prose and short stories which he would often read to me and his mom about his dark, yet hopeful, experiences. We always told each other that we loved each other before we would go to sleep. “Dad I love you”. “I love you too Joe”. I’ll miss his smile and his strange green eyes and his sense of humor. He will be loved eternally.
He rolled with the punches, the rain rolled off his back, he had the courage of a Lion, a kind breakable heart, and the gentleness of a lamb.
“One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die”.
John Donne
The struggle is over and he is Free as a Bird.
