Jeffrey Oliver Obituary

Jeffrey Wayne Oliver, husband to Patricia (nee Blackwell), father to James (Erika), Matthew (Melanie) and Daniel (Christine), passed away at home on October 30, 2025. He was 78 years old.

Jeff was born in Warren, Ohio, on June 3, 1947, to Arthur Lee Oliver and Virginia Lee Oliver (nee Fousse),  both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised in Windham, Ohio along with his four siblings, Lee Jr. (Butch; deceased1960), Larry, Suzanne and Ralph (deceased 2022).

After graduating from Windham High School (class of 1965), Mr. Oliver attended Kent State University, where he met his future wife of 56 years. He graduated in 1971 with a BS in Ed.

But of course, he always thought he graduated from The Ohio State University. Go Buckeyes!

Mr. Oliver was a teacher. He taught high school English and Humanities; he saw the beauty in art, poetry and prose.

He conquered and taught a sport that was surfacing on the American horizon, soccer, even though it was new to him as well. He became not only a coach but also a mentor for 10 years to scores of young men during his years on the field of competition.

He was a grandfather of four. Travis, Bohdan, Eleanor and Zoe brought great joy to his life and he loved to hear of their everyday activities and see their growth through shared online posts and visits.

He was a businessman. You might catch him checking out your footware logo. A Nike man to the end.

Jeff  was a provider. He always made sure his family was sheltered, fed, warm, safe and comfortable. The holidays at the Olivers’ meant a beautiful Christmas tree that he loved decorating, the warmth of a fireplace, and his kids excited faces.

And he was a baseball fan. Boy, was he a baseball fan. Go Tribe!

Jeff was a father who wanted more than anything for all three of his children to earn college degrees and took great pride in the fact that one son served honorably in the Army as well.

And Mr. Oliver was also an avid gardner. He spent countless hours with his hands in the soil. After his retirement, he had voluntarily begun (with board approval)  to resurrect the sculpted beds that had been neglected around the Farmingdale Condo #1 Association Property  in Darien, Illinois. Using perennial plants found on the grounds already, and propagating them, along with new planting from other sources, the two properties became an acre of horticultural beauty worthy of comment by passersby during the spring and summer months. He lobbied to have many trees planted around the condo perimeters. All of this is now his community legacy.

And all along the way, he grew a family.

In lieu of contributions, wake up today, look in the mirror, and hug your loved ones.
