James Michael Burns

James Michael Burns, age 74, was born into eternal life on January 3, 2026, at St. Thomas Hospice at Hinsdale Hospital. At his side were his beloved wife, Kathleen (Kathy) Burns (née Frey), and his sister, Judy Burns.

Jim and Kathy were married on September 4, 1983, and shared 42 years of marriage.

He was the beloved son of the late Charles (Chuck) and Marjorie Burns (née Rohrer) of Oak Lawn, Illinois.

Jim was the owner of Burns and Associates in LaGrange, Illinois, a firm he led for over 30 years. He was a graduate of Loyola University, where he earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, and later received his MBA from DePaul University. Early in his career, Jim served as an adjunct professor at DeVry University and DePaul University. He began his professional career at Arthur Andersen, where he formed many lifelong friendships. Jim was also a dedicated supporter of his high school, Brother Rice High School.

In his earlier years, Jim enjoyed playing golf and had a lifelong fondness for animals, especially his eight basset hounds over the years. He was particularly devoted to his current basset hound, Reggie, and his cat, Frisky.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 306 West Fourth Street, Hinsdale, Illinois 60521, on February 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. There will be a “Celebration of Life” at 11:30 to 2:30 at Ruth Lake Country Club at 6200 S. Madison St. Hinsdale, Illinois, 60521.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Jim’s name to St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 306 West Fourth Street, Hinsdale, Illinois, Brother Rice High School,10001 S.
