Irene M. Fox, age 95, of Woodridge, Illinois, died April 11, 2026, at Sunrise Senior Living in Willowbrook, Illinois.
Irene was born on December 15, 1930, in Brookfield, Illinois, the daughter of Jerry and Marie (Vitek) Fox. She grew up in Brookfield and Cicero and graduated from Morton High School.
She received her B.S. in Chemistry from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and worked her entire career as an Inorganic Chemist in Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Illinois until she retired.
Irene traveled worldwide. She visited the Pyramids in Egypt, Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada and took a 10-day raft trip down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.
She had a passion for downhill skiing in Aspen and enjoyed frequent trips to Door County in Wisconsin with her cousin, Alice Bettin.
Irene loved the outdoors, especially hiking in Starved Rock State Park and Matthiessen State Park. She loved gardening and attending concerts at Orchestra Hall and the Chicago Art Institute. She was a long-term member of the American Sewing Guild.
She is survived by her two nephews, Paul Kolodziej of Nanoose Bay, BC, Canada, Michael Kolodziej of Moyock, NC and his three children, Melissa Kolodziej of Norfolk, VA, Hilary Kolodziej of Norfolk, VA and Nathan Kolodziej of Chesapeake, VA. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Marie (Vitek) Fox and her sister, Sylvia (Fox) Kolodziej.
