Gordon Grant, Jr.

Gordon Grant, Jr. a resident of Tequesta Fl. and a former longtime resident of Hinsdale, IL, passed away on September 15, 2021. Gordon was born on November 1, 1925, in Columbia SC. He was a graduate of Middlesex School, Concord MA., and attended Dartmouth College in the V12 program during World War II. He loved telling the story of how he was the center (playing 59 minutes) on the 1944 Dartmouth football team that was defeated by Notre Dame 64-0 in Fenway Park. He graduated from Harvard University in 1947 and spent his career in the toy business, beginning as a buyer at Jordan Marsh in Boston and later becoming National Sales Manager of Playskool Toys, living in Natick, MA, Norwalk, CT, and Hinsdale, IL. An avid golfer, he moved to Florida 23 years ago, following his marriage to Jane, becoming a member of the Tequesta Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Jane Novak, and her two children David(Gayle) Novak, Dallas TX, and Sally(Ron) Engels, Palm Beach Fl. and their children. Also his children Alexander F. (Cathy) Grant, Prairie Village, KS, Rosamond (Mike) Diedrich, Plainfield, IL, Deborah (Ken) Koberstein, Plainfield, IL, and David W. (Danette) Grant, Centennial, CO. His daughter-in-law Deborah D. Grant, Buffalo, WY.,  8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. His two brothers, Halcott G. Grant, Weston, MA, and Galt Grant, Hingham, MA, and many nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Jean L. Grant, his daughter, Virginia E. Grant, his son Gordon Grant III and his sister, Virginia Davenport. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 10:00 am - 1 pm at Adolf Funeral Home, 7000 S. Madison St. Hinsdale, IL  60521. A Celebration of Life will be held in Tequesta, FL.  November 21, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to YOUTH ON COURSE, youthoncourse.org, 3200 Lopez Rd. Pebble Beach, Ca 93953.
