George Charles Mueller passed away peacefully on August 18th, 2024, at Oak Trace Health Center in Downers Grove, IL. He was born July 8th, 1937, in rural Hinsdale, IL (now Oak Brook) to George H Mueller, whose family settled there in 1872, and Rose (nee Spamheimer) Mueller. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Hinsdale, where he was a lifelong member. He graduated from Hinsdale High School and North Central College in Naperville with a Business degree.
George served with the Illinois National Guard. He was employed for 30 years in the finance department at Electro Motive Division of General Motors in McCook. After retiring there, he was a realtor in Hinsdale for 23 years.
George’s life was a life of service. He helped to organize a volunteer Fire Department in Oak Brook and served as it’s Captain. He also helped others with the incorporation of Oak Brook into a Village. He was active in the Oak Brook Civic Association and organized the Oak Brook Winter Carnival for many years. Over the years, he brought hundreds of Great Lakes Naval Base recruits to the area for Thanksgiving dinner in private homes. George served on Oak Brook‘s Plan Commission and Zoning Board. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and was on the Graue Mill’s Board of Directors, serving some years as President.
George served 65 years as a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hinsdale, serving on several of its governing boards, including many years as President and Treasurer.
George is survived by his wife, Judith; his sister, Virginia Eggert; his daughter, Janet (Shawn) Pack; his son, Jonathan; and four Grandchildren: Cassidy Kring, Shawn C Pack, Emma, and Drew Mueller.
George's funeral services will be at Zion Lutheran Church, 204 South Grant, Hinsdale, at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 24th. Visitation will be from 9 until time of service 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Clarendon Hills Cemetary, 6900 South Cass Avenue, Darien, IL. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, Hinsdale, or a recipient of your choice.
