Gary T Benton

Gary Thomas Benton, age 62, of Westmont, IL, passed away at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, Melrose Park, Illinois, Thursday, March 26, 2020, after a long illness with auto Immune encephalitis. Gary was born July 11, 1957, in Dearborn, MI, to the late Gerald T. and Donna J. (Cooney) Benton. 

Gary served as a Gunners Mate in the U.S. Navy with a primary specialty in electricity and electronics. His professional career included wedding photography, photography sales, IT Specialist and Grill-Master.  There was no camera Gary met that he could not fix.  Gary coached soccer at the Westmont Park District for his son and daughter’s soccer teams. He was an enthusiastic fan and supporter of the Westmont Wildcats Cheerleaders and the North Central College Cardinals track team. Gary loved camping and spending quality time with family, especially his children, nieces and nephews.  Gary lived with a smile on his face, and after spending time with Gary, you could not help but feel lifted up. 

Beloved husband of Marianne (nee Swanston) Benton.  Loving and proud father of Daniel T. (Natalie) Benton and Noelle J. Benton.  Dedicated and loving grandfather to Luna G. Benton.  

Cherished son of the late Gerald T. Benton and Donna J (nee Cooney) Benton.  Cherished  son-in-law of Lois J (nee LaBash, Swanston) and Aidan Stephens and the late William J. Swanston.  

Loving brother of Diane (nee Benton) (Brian) Teddy of Oscoda, MI and Julie (nee Benton) (Joseph) Koprowicz of Gaylord, MI.  Loving brother-in-law of Willam J. (Janette) Swanston, Thomas J. (Delinda) Swanston, John P. Swanston, Lori A. (Clint) Dvorak  and Robert S. Swanston.  

Special and caring uncle of Abigail Koprowicz, Amy (nee Bush) (Christopher) Garcia, Timothy (fiance' Doris) Bush, Sammantha (partner Darryl) Bush, Terece (nee Bush) (Brent) Teddy, Michael P. (Nalani) Swanston, David W. (Stephanie) Swanston, Amy L. (Carson) Davis, Tehila G. Wilson, Kyra R. Dvorak, Luke A. Dvorak, Andrew R. Swanston, Kateyn M. Swanston and Vivienne R. Swanston.

Special and caring great-uncle of Juanita Garcia, Savannah Garcia, Leopoldo Garcia, Timothy Bush Jr, Zachary Bechler, Casie Merrill and Sara Merrill.
