On November 20, 2024, the Lord called Earl J. Joyce, Jr. home peacefully in his sleep. Undoubtedly, this was one of St. Peter’s easiest calls.
Born on November 5, 1954, Earl was the beloved husband of Monika and the cherished son of Noreen and the late Earl Joyce, Sr. He was the dear brother of Michael (Mary Lynn), John (Terry), Joe (Mary Lynn), and the late Patrick (Dorothy). Earl was also a devoted brother-in-law to Carmen (Edwardo).
Together, Earl and Monika opened their hearts and home to numerous adopted and foster children who became a permanent part of their family: Bill (Kimberly), Theresa (Kenny), Dana (Amir), Tim (Zikkiyyia), Amy, Michael (Kristin), Steve, Ken, Laurie, Cassandra, and the late John and Leah. Earl was the proud grandfather of 27 and great-grandfather of 18, as well as the uncle of 9 and great-uncle of 10.
Earl had a deep love for music, regularly playing the conga drums with friends during the “Friday Night Jam” and performing in Zydeco and Blues bands. He was also an avid basketball player until his health prevented him from continuing. Earl’s dedication to service was evident through his many years of delivering meals and companionship with the “Meals on Wheels” program. He also volunteered at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel food pantry, bringing care and kindness to his community.
Earl and Monika hosted many cherished gatherings, including Oktoberfests and Christmas sing-alongs for family and friends. Together, they were active participants in Worldwide Marriage Encounter, sharing their love and wisdom with others for many years.
To those who never had the chance to know Earl, you missed out. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A memorial liturgy will be held at Earl’s longtime parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, located at 8404 S. Cass Avenue, Darien, IL, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
