Richard C. Nelson, 92, passed away on April 16, 2020, shortly after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Born December 18, 1927, to Carl and Genevieve Nelson in Rockford, Illinois. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Everett, and his beloved wife Rosie. Graduated from East High School in 1945. Served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years. Employed by W.F. & John Barnes, Ekstrom Carlson, Greenlee Bros. as a draftsman and then started his own businesses, first as a custom home builder and then kitchen remodeling.
Married Rosie Johnson in February 1953. He is survived by two sons, Tom in Rockford, Illinois and Randy (Macky) in Maple Grove, Minnesota, four granddaughters, one grandson, three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Member of First Evangelical Covenant Church where he sang in the choir and Male Chorus. In later years, he attended Maywood Free Church. Over a 40-year span, he donated his building contractor skills for many missionary projects in Nome Alaska, Soldotna Alaska, and Mexico. For the last 2 years, he had been a resident and avid “puzzle-master” at Covenant Living at Windsor Park in Carol Stream, Illinois. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated in Dick's name to Alaska Christian College, 35109 Royal Pl, Soldotna, AK 99669.
