Betty Ann Kalber

Betty (Ann) Rhodes Kalber, of Burr Ridge, IL, passed away on June 11, 2026. Betty was born to A.J. “Jack” and Lillian (DeVry) Rhodes in Omaha, NE on November 13,1924. She was raised in Omaha, graduated from Benson High School and attended University of Nebraska, where she was affiliated with Pi Beta Phi sorority.

In September,1946, Betty married her high school classmate, Floyd Kalber. Two children were born to them David (Mick) and Kathy. In 1959, the family moved from Omaha to south suburban Chicago. Betty was active in Infant Welfare, Cub Scouts, various charities and PTA. Floyd delivered the 10 p.m. news for NBC in Chicago. The couple moved to New Canaan, CT in 1976, when Floyd moved to the Today show where he anchored the news prior to retiring from NBC in 1981. But in 1984, WLS-TV, Chicago (ABC) lured Kalber out of retirement and the couple moved to Burr Ridge, IL. Betty worked side by side with her daughter, Kathy, in founding and running a Christmas gift program for Community Nurse Health Services in LaGrange area retiring in 2000. Betty and Floyd enjoyed golf and travel, as well as taking immense pleasure in being grandparents.

Preceding Betty in death were her parents; Floyd, her husband of 57 years, sister Barbara Anderson, brother William J. Rhodes, and sister Jean Crane.

She is survived by her son Mick and daughter-in-law Ann of Pahoa, Hawaii, daughter Kathy Kalber Kinsella, grandchildren Ivory and Sage Kalber, Chris (Zara), Mike (Jessica), Patrick, and Molly and nine great-grandchildren.
