Laurence O. Stine, age 94, passed away on December 4, 2018, with his family by his side. He was a 60-year resident of Western Springs and currently resided in Elmhurst. He was born on November 5, 1924, in Williston, North Dakota. Larry was a WWII Navy veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as part of the V-12 program and entered the University of Minnesota to study engineering, later transferring to the University of Notre Dame’s Midshipman School. He served on the USS Princeton and was discharged in 1946 as a lieutenant. He earned his master’s degree in chemical engineering at Northwestern University. Larry started work at UOP in 1947. He had a long list of accomplishments during his 68-year career. He was part of UOP’s delegation to China in 1973, among the first companies to be re-admitted to China in 35 years. He was named on his 78th patent just this past May. Larry felt he was not a smart man, but had a good imagination and the ability to recognize talent in others. Loving companion of Fran Wall; beloved husband of the late Antoinette; dear father of Mary Alice Liedtke and Margaret Stine (Karl Johnson); fond grandfather of Alex Liedtke, Charles (Allison) Johnson, Kyle Johnson, and Bradley Johnson. Larry was the last surviving of six brothers which yielded a large Stine clan, now near 90 members. He was very devoted to family. Euclid Ave. Elmhurst, IL 60126. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
